Why we care:
We believe in a free society where individuals and organisations can live and act in accordance with their core beliefs.
Freedom of religion and speech are at the heart of the pursuit of truth and a functioning democracy. We seek to protect these rights from attempts to curtail them, in the hope of an “offence-free” society. We believe in an Australia where people of all beliefs live and work together for the common good.
We support:
- Legislating religious freedom as a positive right, rather than through an ad-hoc system of exemptions.
- The right of parents to determine the kind of education their children receive through public, private, or homeschooling.
- The right of religious schools and other organisations to act and hire in accordance with their established purposes.
- The right to free speech, particularly in the areas of political and religious communication.
- Careful legislation around potentially conflicting rights.
